Metal Organic Semiconductor Compound Film Lateral Photovoltaic Effect

In comparison with the transverse photovoltaic effect used in the solar cells, lateral photovoltaic effect (LPE) also has a wide range of applications, especially position-sensitive detectors (PSDs). Recently, large LPE was also found in nanometer composite films on Si substrates. Till now, only few studies have been reported for LPE in organic semiconductor related devices. Thus, it is interesting to study what will happen if the upper layer is replaced by metal doped organic semiconductor films in the MOS/MS structures. In this thesis, we investigated the lateral photovoltaic effects in metal thin film and metal-OSC granular films on Si substrates, and discussed its possible mechanism. The contents of this thesis are as follow:PART A:Lateral photovoltaic effect in Al thin films on silicon substrates.1. The Al thin films were deposited on silicon substrates with the native oxide layer (n type,<111>),forming the Si/SiO2/Al structures.2. Lateral photovoltaic effect was observed in Si/SiO2/Al structures. The dependence of LPV on the thickness of Al layer was investigated. LPV increase greatly with the decrease of the thickness of Al layer.PART B:Lateral photovoltaic effects in metal-OSC granular films on silicon substrates.1. A series of Al-Alq3, Co-Alq3and Al-TPD granular films were deposited on different kinds of silicon substrates (n type,<111>), forming the Si/metal-OSCand Si/SiO2/metal-OSC structures.2. Lateral photovoltaic effect was observed in Si/SiO2/metal-OSC and Si/metal-OSC structures. The dependence of LPV on metal composition, thickness of SiO2layer and Si substrates were studied. The possible mechanism of LPV was discussed.
