Virtual reality is a new technology in recent years. Its applications havepenetrated into all walks of life. Virtual scene and the animation design in thevirtual scene are the main research contents in virtual reality field. The thesis’stheoretical research target is to simulate the virtual scene,and the practicalbackground is the falling material animation in the engineering work. It ismainly divided into two parts. One part is to research the method of generate theterrain in the complex scene. The other part is to research the generationtechnology of animation (sand for example) with particle system. The maincontents are as follows:(1) The paper studies the method of generating the terrain model andsimplifying the terrain mesh and generates the terrain mesh using the structureof quad-tree. Firstly,in order to make the view-dependent nodes judging systemmore accurate, an improved view dependent nodes judged function ispresented.The method of adding the weighting distance is proposed to introducethe factor of view direction,this method is used to judge the distance betweenthe terrain nodes and the view direction; Secondly, The cracks’ appearance andmending method is presented,the detail steps are given to eliminate the cracks,and achieve a seamless LOD model. Then, analyze the phenomenon ofPopping-Up in the scene roaming, use the blend height to resolve thephenomenon, achieve the terrain roaming finally. The experimental result showsthat the method can simplify the terrain mesh and improve the face rendingspeed while keeping the terrain scene’s display quality.(2) In order to simulate the falling material in the engineering work, thispaper studies the technology of the animation based on particle system. Firstly,give the sands the basic attribution to make the particles to do parabolic motionaccording to the principle of dynamics, and achieve the simulation of dumpingsand process, realize the loader dumping sand animation. Secondly, in order tosimulate the sand packing process after sand falling, the paper research on themethods of particles packing, and provide the method of both based on probability and based on the height to accumulate the sands particles. Theexperimental result shows the method of realizing falling material animationbased on particle system presented in this paper can simulate the loader dumpingsand and the scene more real.
