The side body welding station is one of the most important stations in thewelding and assembly line of body in white (BIW). In this thesis, a study of the layout,fixture design and robot path planning of the side body welding station is proceed inthe background of BIW trial-manufacturing of Zhongqi Car.A virtual design process of welding station is proposed based on DELMIA, theproduct and welding lines of the station are imported into the DPE, the process andresource library is created and the preliminary process planning is finished.The preliminary layout is settled by a contrast of two different precepts. Thedifficulty of task’s assignment is reduced after the application of combination ofvisual platform and process restrain. The task assignment of side body welding stationis preliminarily finished. Based on this, the robot position is made out by thecalculation of robot reachablity for each welding line and the station layout isfinished.The design rules are summarized by an analysis for the characteristic of the part.The fixture is designed with an application of full surface location andelectromagnetism force to clamp the parts. The fixture structure is finished and anoptimization is made to satisfy the requirement of environment through a simulationanalysis.The robot posture in the start point and end point of different welding lines areoptimized by a symbol method, which helps to reduce the robot movement time. Andtaking the time into account, the optimum robot welding paths are made out by branchand bound method to minimize the movement time. At last, a motion simulation ismade to verify the path is feasible.
