With the development of mobile communications technology and the popularity of mobile devices, mobile computing applications become more and more widely, it can meet the need of obtaining information at anytime and in anywhere. However, the mobile computing environment has the issues of network disconnection frequently, mobility and limited resources of mobile devices. Semantic cache is a caching technique based on historical results and semantic description. It records semantic correlation between the queries. Compared to the traditional caching techniques, semantic cache has the advantages of supporting for complex network and less consumption of network resources. The semantic cache is suitable mobile computing environment and has a very important significance and practical value.This paper studies the semantic cache such as the establishment of the semantic cache model, query processing mechanism and semantic cache consistency maintenance strategies. First, this paper analyzes and improves the classical semantic caching model; creates a cluster-based semantic cache model which optimizes the cluster structure. On this basis, this paper proposes a semantic cache replacement algorithm based on the spatial and temporal characteristics optimization.The algorithm considers characteristics of mobile data, which inludes the time, the space and the semantic correlation.Second, based on established semantic cache model, this paper researchs semantic cache query processing mechanism and consistency maintenance strategies. In terms of query processing, it proposes a query processing algorithm which is adapt to the mobile computing complex environment. The algorithm designs different query processing strategies for different characteristics of the mobile network environment. In terms of consistency maintenance, it establishes a maintenance model to meet the different consistency requirements of mobile users. And to solve the problem that the existing consistency maintenance algorithm is inflexible, the paper proposes a consistency maintenance algorithm which based on demand. The experiments show that the established semantic cache model is suitable for mobile computing features. The proposed algorithm can improve query performance, reduce network communication costs and have good versatility, flexibility and scalability.
