This paper mainly researches the detection and tracking of human based on video-sequence which has various applications in intelligent visual surveillance, content based video retrieval, assistant driving system, human-computer interaction and so on. The detection and tracking of human based on video-sequence involves many academic disciplines, such as pattern recognition, artificial intelligence and so on. Although human detection and tracking has been developed for years it is still a difficult task because of the complex environments of various applications and special characteristics of the human body. An efficiently, fast and robust system that can quickly and accurately detect and track the human body is still relatively hard to find. On the basis of studying previous work, the paper proposes a method that uses geometric characteristics of the human body to detect human. The method first obtains face region, and then detects human body by considering the width and height of the face. We track moving human by the algorithm of Camshift and then study the detection and tracking of the human body focusing on face detection. The main contributions of this paper include:1) The major algorithms of the moving target detection are studied. We mainly investigate background subtraction based detection algorithms and analyze several popular methods. Moreover we propose an improved time differential background building method. The experiments show that the method can detect moving targets well and it is adaptable and robust.2) Detection and tracking of the human body belongs to the moving target detection and tracking. The method of moving target detection and tracking can detect and track the movement of the human body, but these methods usually are time-consuming and can not effectively detect and track the human body. At the same time these methods do not use the characteristics of the human body. In this paper, we use the characteristics of the human body to detect and track the human body. We determine the face region by detecting the face and eyes, and then detect human by the geometric characteristics of the human body, at last track the human body by the appropriate algorithm. The experiments show that the method can fast detect and track of human, and it has good performance.3) The paper studies several main face recognition methods. On the basis of studying previous work, this paper proposes an effective face detection algorithm that detects face base on Color-Haar features. Experimental results show that our proposed method is reliable and fast.
