LTE-A is the enhancement of LTE evolved version. The target of establish this project isto meet ITU’s requirements of the high peak rate, high spectral efficiency and the low latencyfor the fourth generation mobile communication system. And it should meet the needs oflow-cost, large coverage, high adaptive in the future. It is the current focus of the industry. Tothe OFDM and SC-FDMA LTE/LTE-A system, for a considerable part of the realization of thefunction depends on accurate channel estimation algorithm. Especially for the uplink, theaccuracy of channel estimation directly affects the performance of the entire system to someextent. After introducing the key techniques of LTE/LTE-A physical layer and the enhancementtechniques of the LTE-A uplink, the thesis detailed descripts about the basis of design of thepilot symbols and channel estimation algorithm of the LTE-A uplink, including the symboldesign and generation of reference signal, and the LS, MMSE, channel interpolation channelestimation algorisms, est.A new algorithm for optimal power allocation of pilot tones has been proposed. Thethesis mainly considers minimizing channel estimation error by adjusting the power of thepilot symbols. The problem is formulated as a classical semi-definite programming problem, and hence it can be efficiently solved. Simulation result has shown the new algorithm cansignificantly improve the system performance, both in channel estimation and SER.
