Machine translation is a sub-field of natural language processing which aims to use computers to translate text from one natural language to another natural language. Over the last decade, machine translation has gained huge progress both in research community and industrial. Not only handreds of academic papers have been published on this field, many international companies such as Macrosoft, Google and Youdao have developed their own machine translation engines and free online machine translation systems which greatly facilitate our daily life.One thing to note is that, although great importance has been atteched on this domain, much of the works mainly concerned on machine translation with English as either the source side language or the target side language. Until now, little effort is paid on Chinese-Korean machine translation. Thus, this work focuses on Chinese-Korean machine translation. As a native speaker of Korean, the author first gives a brief introduction to Korean, including the pronounciation of Korean, the usage of Korean predicate auxiliarys and so on. And then, we give a deep analysis about the tense and aspect of Korean which is the key element of Chinese-Korean machine translation. Then, a detailed comparison between Chinese and Korean in terms of tense and aspect is described with discussions about the tense transition problem and some related issues. We also present the usage of Korean infinitives and its applications in Chinese-Korean machine translation. After these analysis and comparison, we present an algorithm which takes into account of Chinese sentence structure and auxiliary word to determine the tense of Korean verbs. Experimental results show the effectiveness of our method.
