With the rapid development of wireless communication technology, the futurecommunications system will be a merged heterogeneous network, which includesvarious wireless access system.In order to make people enjoy the convenience and seamless access experience,multi-mode terminals are commonly available. Therefore, the traffic stream distributionin heterogeneous network becomes an important inevitable problem.ACO(Ant Colony Optimization) is one of the intelligent algorithm proposed inrecent year. It has the strong global optimization ability, parallelism and concurrency.And consequently, it is the effective method to solve the flow distribution. Based on theprinciple of ant colony algorithm, a method is proposed which is to distinguish theinitialization pheromone distribution and reduce the complexity of choosing path. It haseffectively improved the convergence speed of ACO compared to the original one. Atlast, a new algorithm is proposed in this thesis for flow distribution of multi-modeterminals in heterogeneous environment. The QoS(Quality of Service) of flow,userpreferences and network status are taken together in this algorithm. Seven kinds oftraffic stream QoS constraint are considered, which is available bandwidth, transmissiondelay, transmission jitter, packet loss, the priority, communication cost and powerconsumption price. It also defines the distribution utility on behalf of user satisfaction.The target of flow distribution is to maximize the utility.
