The open split ring resonator(OSRR) can be loaded into the microstrip line directly, due to its unique structure and feedline. Compared with the conventional split ringresonator(SRR), it doesn’t need the excitation of magnetic field, because it builds twoterminals with excitation and loads. This is the―open‖meaning. And easy for designingof the whole microwave equipment. With higher capacitance and the same inductance, itcan work with lower frequency、wider frequency band and small size. Its dual structureopen complementary split ring resonator(OCSRR) has higher inductance thancomplementary split ring resonater(CSRR), so it is also suitable for designing small sizecomponents. In this paper, transmission characteristic of the OSRR is the basis theory, first of all,the microstrip transmission electromagnetic characteristic has been analyzed, includingthe principle of transmission zero and transmission pole. this is important for designingOSRR filter. and its geometry parameters has been analyzed, and then design abandpass filer based on this ring. This filter has great inband characteristic、steepoutband and small size. Second a lowpass filter has been made with the opencomplementary split ring resonator(OCSRR), realize miniaturization. At last, thestepped impendence resonator has been compared with OSRR, the ring has beendivided into two parts, couple ring and feedline. And its second transmission band canbe controlled through changing its ring impendence ratio. Then a dualband filer hasbeen made, this can prove that the OSRR has dualband characteristic through changingits ring impendence ratio, also realize miniaturization.
