With the development of information technology, portable storagedevice is growing rapidly. Information security for portable storage devicesare often neglected by people. Loss of portable storage devices is likely tocause the leakage of important information; on the network, portablestorage devices which are connected to computer often suffer fromcomputer virus attacks, so that the file system will be damaged. Forportable storage devices, information security has these requirements:1.Users except the owner of the device can t operate the file system whenthere is not a user’s permission.2. Even if users except the owner of thedevice take the storage media off from the device, then access the storagemedia, they still can t get any useful information.3. When the device canbe operated with permissions, the computer virus can be prevented fromtempering the device file system.According to the three security requirements mentioned, a securestorage solutions based on the FAT32file system is designed. In this article the research work present in these jobs:1. ResearchAC4security chip, design a mass storage device with data encryptionwhich only support private transfer protocol, and the private transferprotocol can be configured by user.2. Design a low memory consumptionuser interface through establishing a file cluster number table in devicememory.3. Design a computer desk client that uses private protocol tomanage FAT32file system on removable storage device, with basicoperation of transferring data clusters through USB bus. Users can onlyuse this client on computer to manage the device file system, which makesthe device and the computer a closed system. The computer virus can ttamper the device file system through standard UFI instruction.The solution can enforce the security of portable device s file system,which prevents non-owners of the device from operating the file systemand prevents the Trojan on Internet from tampering the device. Thesolution can be a reference to other portable devices on securityconsideration.
