According to the IDC’s survey, in2011, the created data of the world achieve at the1.8ZB (1800billion GB) and the total amount of global information data will double everytwo years while the density of magnetic recording almost comes to its limit. To solve theproblem, the data storage area have embarked on some new storage technologies and theShingled Magnetic Recording is a one of them. The SMR technology can be realizedbased on the technology of current disks, improving recording density by overlapping partof the track. The recording method of the SMR technology result in a problem in writingoperation: as the track of recording data becomes so narrow that it will make the data insome contiguous tracks invalid when writing data into one track. This is the generalsolution for this problem now: read out the data that will be interfered before writing data, then write the data into its track, and write back the interfered data at last, and it make thewriting perfornance of the SMR disk very bad. There is a solution to improve the writingperforace based on researching and analyzing both the characteristics of the SMR storageand the features of personal data storage: Dynamic Mapping Tables Management(DMTM),that change the writing place into another place when the writing would make some dataovercovered so then reduce the redundant read and write, optimizes the writingperformace of the SMR disk accordingly. The DMTM design the storage structure of the SMR disk; break up current singlelocgical block address into two mapping logical block addresses so that the change ofwriting place will be transparent; and also accomplish the detailed design of each part, such as the managing and operating of the logical block address mapping tables, gettingthe way of moving data’s wrting place, reclaiming the fragments of the storage space andso on. The results of the simulation show that the DMTM can optimize the writingperformace of the SMR disk apparently, proving the practicability of it.
