The technology of multi-target prediction has aroused general interest,which hasbeen widely used in areas of military, navigation, traffic, security, space and so on,and that is the reason its theory and applications are deeply and widely been studiedby so many researchers.Generally, based on a space platform, the optical observation and other methodsare used to monitor space targets on space target monitoring. However, the images,obtained from the remote star field observation, are often small, with low luminanceand unobvious geometric shape. Besides, there are a great number of stars in theobservation background, the size and appearance of targets and these stars are similar,they can be hardly distinguished from each other. In addition, space targets as well asmicro spacecraft are moving all the time, especially to the micro spacecraft, which iswhirling itself; these two kinds of movement mingled together really add to thedifficulties of multi-target capture and prediction. So, how to implement theprediction effectively and reliably with limited hardware resource on a microaerospace detector has become a difficult work.The paper firstly introduces some basic theory of multi-target prediction, whichincluding target moving models, target prediction principles, prediction filters andtarget occlusion problems.Secondly, based on analysis of the environment of celestial background, the paperdesigned an algorithm of multi-target prediction, which satisfies the space targetperfectly. The algorithm will be introduce in parts of image block processing,multi-target capture and recognition, targets number and coordinates calculation,targets prediction.Then, the paper introduced the whole hardware platform of the real time imageprocessing algorithm, and the algorithm is mainly designed on FPGA chips fromXilinx Company, with the chips own DSP tools--AccelDSP.Finally, the paper analysis the simulation result of this algorithm. Satellite Tool Kitis utilized to simulate the data stream in celestial background.According to simulation analysis, we can tell the algorithm introduced in thispaper has precise prediction, high reliability, low complexities, and real time ability,which can satisfy the special requirements of the work conditions and spaceenvironment very well. But, still, it needs to be further study in many aspects.
