As the computer business developing, the power of hardware system becomes morepowerful compared with the software system which means compnies now pay for theredundancy processing ability they do not need. The growth of virtualization tech providesone way to handle this problem.Starting with the definition of virtualizaion and scenarioes that virtualization tech uses,we discuss the three most popular VMM models and theirs corresponding virutliazation plans, summarizing the pros and cons of these plans on x86architecture. Followed up with thestructure of Xen, focusing on the memory management of Xen, we research the BalloonDriver with source code and analyse the page shaking under the multi-VMs’ scenario. Thenwe supply the “Centralized-Judgment Balloon Driver” algorithm to deal with the issue andgive the flow chart and pseudocode. Further, we provide the “3-Layer Performance TestModel” that is combined with the “AHP”&“Maximizing Deviation” to evaluate a systembeing virtulized, and use this model to evaluate the VMware Workstation&Xen Client viacamparison. We also dicuss the potential improvements of the “Centralized-Judgment BalloonDriver” and “3-Layer Performance Test Model” at last. This thesis could also provide some helpful ideas and experience for those who want todo some research on the memory management of Xen and performance test.
