Balance is one of the most important physical functions for human body. It keeps ourbody movement and posture coordinating and affluent. With the clinical situation ofstanding or walking instability and tendency to fall, balance disorder can make the patientsunable to take care of themselves, result in a severe loss of their quality of life, and cause agreat burden for their families and society. Balance detection for stroke patients has greatguiding significance to the assessment and treatment of the stroke.In order to detect the balance ability for stroke patients, The balance detection methodbased on acceleration sensor is proposed, and the balance detection system applied with afalling detection and warning device is designed and implemented. To match the need ofclinical application, the system detect patients’ static balance ability through the dip angledetection and related indicators statistics. To detect the balance ability during patients’movement, three statistics indicators with characteristic sense, and the dynamic balancedetection algorithm are described. To insure the continuity of detection, and realize theauto switch between the static mode and dynamic mode, the motion detection algorithm isdesigned. Further, to solve the problem of falling tendency caused by balance damage, thefalling detection algorithm is designed.Experiments confirmed that, the system hardware is stable, and can accurately andeffectively record the changing value of three-axis acceleration in four meters. Both staticand dynamic balance detection algorithms have good differentiation, and the motiondetection algorithm is also accurate and effective. The falling detection and warningdevice has high sensitivity, can give timely warning, and has achieved the design targets.
