Development of modern society and technological progress promote the size of thecontrol system to keep the complexity of development. System failure may be greatlyincreased. In order to ensure system security and reliability, the system fault diagnosisresearch is very important. The main purpose of this paper is directed to linear time-invariant system, using linearmatrix inequalities theory to study different fault. This paper introduces the background and significance of fault detection and diagnosisresearch, the existing methods of fault diagnosis and detection. The basic characteristic andrespective advantages and disadvantages of a variety of methods are presented. the basicknowledge of matrix theory, Lyapunov stability, system of time parameter estimation as wellas regional pole allocation relevant basic knowledge are introduced.Fault diagnosis methods based on observer are researched for a class of a lineartime-invariant system with interference.1. A new approach is presented to determine whether the system is in fault in unit timefor a class of simple linear time-invariant system.2. If the system fails, then a new method is put forward to to determine whether thesystem is the actuator or sensor or actuator and sensor fault in a unit of time. thevalidity of the method is proved by using a numerical examples.3. Fault diagnosis methods based on observer are researched for a class of a lineartime-invariant system with interference.
