Optical fiber communication technology goes into a high-speed development period, while the optical fiber communication devices have promoted the development of the optical fiber communication technology greatly. The electro-optic modulator works as an important part of the optical fiber communication system which restricts the speed of the system, and becomes more and more favorite research focus.In This dissertation the modulator based on niobate crystals waveguide was designed and prepared, the test system was set up for the testing of the modulator characteristics. In this paper, the mechanism of proton exchange method was researched, and the lithium niobate crystals optical waveguide was prepared by this method and followed annealing. The ridge structure waveguide, Electro-optical modulator prototype and the test system were prepared based that. Optical performance testing of the Electro-optical modulator, signal transmission characteristics testing, bandwidth property testing, were performed. The results of test have been analyzed. Finding out the influence of the main causes of the modulator performance and suggesting the optimization method.
