Precision agriculture technology is an important tendency development in the21st Century. It is an agricultural management system based on information. Field information, which includes crop output, crop growing, soil environmental data and their distribution information, is variety, uncertainty, informative and so on. A field information system is established to achieve effective management of these data. The system is used to store, process, analyze and release the field information and provide the basis for decision-making departments.It has outstanding advantages to develop a field information system applied by RS (Remote Sensing) and GIS (Geographic Information System) technology. Remote sensing images are the major source of obtaining field information. Accurate and macroscopic agricultural information could be supplied. Geographic Information System visually displays field information in the form of graph, report forms and so on.Case studies on Hong Zehu farm in Jiang Su Province, a field information system is designed and established from actual conditions of farmland management, according to National High Technology Research and Development Program (863Program)"Key technology research of agricultural mobile intelligent service system based on embedded3S technology"(item number is2008AA10Z226).The system is designed using3-tier B/S architecture and secondary development based on WebGIS component. The classification data of study area is received through the processing of the remote sensing image of Hong Zehu farm. And the field spatial distribution vector data is got form vectorization of the classification data. The properties and spatial databases are stored and managed using Microsoft SQL Server and ArcCatalog, including weather information, Real-time field information (including the pH value of soil, soil moisture, light intensity, location, field images, etc.) from the sensors of wireless sensor networks in the field and spatial vector data. The monitoring site data of wireless sensor network collection in the field is extended using two spatial interpolation methods, which are Inver Distance to a power and Spline Interpolation. The distribution thematic map of continuous field information of the entire target area is got. Users could know real-time and macroscopic growth environment information of crop.The system is developed with ArcGIS Server and Ajax, etc. technology. It achieves the basic operation functions of geographic information system, visual display, inquiry and management of field information. Varieties of agricultural thematic maps are displayed for crop decision. Clients could know the general situation of farm and macroscopic growth environment information of crop.
