The electrocardiogram(ECG) describes the electrical activity of the heart by electrodes placed on the body surface, different waveforms not only reflect the cardiac health but also are the basis of illnesses related to the heart. Therefore, ECG waveform detection and analysis has an important theoretical significance and application value. In this paper, the Electrocardiograms(ECGs) were used as the experi-mental data, which were collected from young (21~34yr) and elderly (68~81yr) groups of healthy subjects, as well as a group of arrhythmia patients(66~81yr), a new method is presented, by using wavelet transform to ECG signals, calculate and analysis the energy proportion distribution of QRS complexes and P-wave and their information entropy index in multiple scales.Firstly the generation principle of human ECG signal is analyzed in detail and presents the physiological significance of the ECG signals. Then introduces the Wavelet Analysis Theory and the Wavelet Analysis method of waveform detection is used in different groups of ECG signal data. Based on the locations of QRS complexes and P-wave, taking Mexican-Hat as a mother wavelet calculate the energy proportion of QRS complexes and P-wave and their information entropy, and the results of different group by T-test. Results show that the energy proportion of the QRS complexes and the information entropy of P-wave energy proportion have no obvious difference between the young and the old(P>0.44, P>0.25); but in the two similar age old groups, the QRS complexes near17Hz, the arrhythmia patients are obviously less than the healthy group (P<0.01); P-wave energy proportion information entropy at0.5~5Hz the arrhythmia patients are more than the healthy group (P<0.05). Analysis shows that the energy proportion of the QRS complexes and information entropy of the P-wave energy proportion calculated by wavelet analysis are sensitive to the healthy and the arrhythmia patients, they can be used as a quantitative reference index for diagnose arrhythmia patients in clinic.
