Based on microwave tube3D CAD software "Microwave tube simulator suite " project of group, This article use the vector finite-element method to solve the eigenvalue problem and waveguide discontinuity problems. On this basis, we investigated Asymptotic Waveform Evaluation on the solving of the S-parameters of microwave devices, and successfully applied it to the waveguide discontinuity problems.This article first discusses how to apply the vector finite-element method for solving electromagnetic problems. Gives the solution steps and some theories in the process of applying vector finite-element method for solving electromagnetic problems. Which focuses on how to apply the variational principle to establish the functional expression for the given boundary value problem; How to discrete solving regional and process number on the solving process of functional expression; How to construct the interpolation basis function of each discrete unit; How to integrate and store the coefficient matrix is also given a specific method.After in this paper, we discusses and analysis the vector finite-element method how to aplly in eigenvalue problem and the waveguide discontinuity problems. For the eigenvalue problems,we used vector finite-element method derived and calculated to get eigenvalue equation. Then designed application software of the above-mentioned derived and calculated process. Finally, used the resulting software to solve the eigen-frequency and compare with the simulation results of commercial electromagnetic software HFSS. For the waveguide discontinuity problem, we choose a rectangular waveguide for analysis. The use of vector finite-element method we first obtain the matrix equations, then solving the matrix equations to get the field distribution of the microwave devices, Thus calculated the field distribution to get the S-parameters of the microwave device, Finally, the obtained results will be compared with the simulation results of commercial electromagnetic software HFSS.Finally, This article discusses how to apply Asymptotic Waveform Evaluation in the solution of the S-parameters of microwave devices. Discussed the basic principles of Asymptotic Waveform Evaluation and the specific application in the solving of S-parameters. For the problem of calculation process is too cumbersome and computation time is too long in solving the S-parameters of waveguide discontinuity problems, in this paper we gives such solution which used Asymptotic Waveform Evaluation method to approximation calculation the S-parameters. For directly solve the S-parameters and used Asymptotic Waveform Evaluation approach to solve the S-parameters these two methods we analyzed their calculation process and computation time and compared.
