Bandstop filters are widely used in telecommunication and broadcasting systems, to suppress harmonics from a nonlinear power amplifier or spurious passbands in a bandpass cover filter within the transmit subsystem. The reflection zeros of generalized Chebyshev bandstop filters having equal ripple characteristic can be arbitrarily placed to generate symmetric or asymmetric responses. The generalized Chebyshev bandstop filters which have strong bypass coupling between source and load is not always feasible to implement. Furthermore, these filters may turn out to be too sensitive to manufacturing error. The generalized Chebyshev bandstop filters with nonresonating nodes or phase shifts do not include direct source-laod coupling and cross-coupling between the adjacent cavity. This kind of bandstop filters have the characteristics of making easily and tuning simply.Firstly, introduce the theories of design of bandstop filters. An example of compact bandstop filter in stripline technology is presented.Secondly, introduce the method to extend the upper passband of bandstop filter comprised of distributed elements. A fifth-order bandstop filter in stripline technology centered at2.23GH is designed. The measured frequency performance exhibiting a first spurious stopband centered at3.5times the center frequency of the fundamental stopband.Thirdly, introduce the synthesis technique of Generalized Chebyshev bandstop filters with phase shifts. A third-order bandstop filter with three reflection zeros is designed at9.88GHz for a realization in waveguide technology. The measured results of the manufactured filter and the theoretical response are in good agreement. Finally, introduce the synthesis technique of Generalized Chebyshev bandstop filters with nonresonating nodes. A third-order novel structure bandstop filter with two symmetry reflection zeros is designed for a realization in waveguide technology. It’s simulated response is in good agree with the ideal response in the stopband and its vicinity.
