Laser-diode (LD) pumped solid-state laser has become an important tool due to its advantages like high efficiency, high reliability, compact structure, all solid state, and high beam quality. Recently, it is used in various scientific areas, like military, industry, medical treatment, and scientific research. The main research content of this paper is "LD end-pumped all-solid-state passively Q-svvitched and Q-switched mode-locked laser characteristics". By using a fiber-coupled laser-diode as the pump source, Nd:YVO4/Nd:YVO4/Nd:YVO4and Nd:YVO4crystals as the gain media, the theoretical analysis on the thermal losses, thermal distortion distributions as well as thermal focal lengths of the gain media is given, and the calculations agree with the experimental results. We have also researched the performance of the output pulse in the passively Q-switched lasers with Cr4+:YAG and the single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) saturable absorber respectively, and the doubly Q-switched laser at1064nm with V:YAG and SWCNTs saturable absorbers. In the three-mirror-folded cavity, a diode-pumped passively Q-switched and mode-locked Nd:YVO4/Nd:YVO4/Nd:YVO4laser with Cr4+:YAG is realized. The main contents of this paper include:1. We have presented the thermal effects of LD end-pumped composite crystal. The theoretical analysis on the thermal focal lengths, thermal losses and thermal distortion distributions of the gain media is given. The thermal focal length has been measured, and the theoretical calculations are in agreement with the experimental results.2. By employing a1064-nm plano-concave cavity configuration, we have researched the performance of the output pulse in the passively Q-switched lasers with Cr4+:YAG and the SWCNTs saturable absorber respectively, and the doubly Q-switched laser with V:YAG and SWCNTs saturable absorbers. The laser characteristic parameters including output power, average output power, pulse width, pulse repetition rate, single-pulse energy and peak power have been measured for different pump powers. For doubly Q-switched operation, the pulse width is shorter, single-pulse energy and pulse repetition rate are higher than those of singly Q-switched laser.3. Adopting the folded cavity structure with three mirror, we have presented a LD-pumped Nd:YVO4/Nd:YVO4/Nd:YVO41064-nm passively Q-switched and mode-locked laser with Cr4+:YAG as the saturable absorber. We have measured the average output power and pulse repetition rate for different pump powers, and calculated the single-pulse energy. The main innovations of this dissertation are as follows:1. We firstly present the theoretical study on the thermal effects of LD end-pumped Nd:YVO4/Nd:YVO4/Nd:YVO4composite crystal. The thermal focal length has also been measured, and the experimental results are in agreement with the theoretical calculations.2. We firstly present Nd:YVO4/Nd:YVO4/Nd:YVO4lasers passively Q-switched with Cr4+:YAG and the SWCNTs saturable absorber respectively, and doubly Q-switched with V:YAG-SWCNTs saturable absorbers. For doubly Q-switched operation, we have obtained shorter pulse width, higher single-pulse energy and pulse repetition rate.3. We firstly present LD-pumped Nd:YVO4/Nd:YVO4/Nd:YVO41064-nm passively Q-switched and mode-locked laser with Cr4+:YAG as the saturable absorber. The average output power and pulse repetition rate for different pump powers are experimentally measured.
