In all kinds of traffic accidents caused by driving fatigue accounts for alarge percentage,it directly caused huge losses to lives and property. InChina, traffic safety laws have a specific provision: it is banned from drivingunder driving fatigue. But many long-distance transport drivers may stilldriving despite fatigue in order to fulfill heavy driving tasks. Traffic policesare helplessness in such situations due to lacking a set of methods or devicesfor objective evaluation of driving fatigue. Finally, it may lead to tragedies. Therefore, it has great practical significance for the study of assessing anddetecting driving fatigue objectively. This article is supported by the medical theory:pupil diameter is notcontrolled subjectively, but dominated by the sympathetic andparasympathetic those are autonomic nervous, which is based on theprevious spontaneous pupil fluctuation. We preliminary explored thecharacteristic parameters of characterizing pupil vitality and detectingdriving fatigue using pupil vitality parameters under light stimulation bycomparatively analysis pupil changing curves between non-fatigue groupand fatigue group. The research can be the following steps:(1) Designing the pupil image acquisition system with light stimulation, its core is the light stimulator.(2) Capturing pupil images.(3) Extracting the pupil boundary by using the computer imageprocessing technologies and plotting the pupil changing curves.(4) Obtaining characteristic parameters of characterizing pupil vitalityby using statistical analysis.Results:(1) The pupil image acquisition system can be used to stimulate thepupil in time and capture the pupil image. It is the basis for furtherresearches.(2) Comparatively analysis of pupil changing curves betweennon-fatigue and fatigue groups. Results demonstrated that the differencesbetween the two groups in pupil changing rate (U=120, P<0.05)andcontraction time(U=120,P<0.05) have significant statistical differences byusing Mann-Whitney U-test. In addition, the pupil recovery time (U=60,P>0.05)has no obvious statistical differences in two states.
