At present, the communication of railway relies on the copper cable along the railway. There are a lot of disadvantage about copper cables, such as high cost, high maintenance cost, poor electrical characteristic, poor quality, poor performance cost ratio, so that it cannot satisfy the requirements for the long interval (longer than30km) and the long tunnel communication.In addition, with the business of railway communications continues to grow, the section communication that should have stronger capacity, is not only limited to the original telephone service. Therefore, the original copper cable can not satisfy the requirements.The modern technology of communication is the mixture of digital technology, computer technology, microelectronic technology and photoelectron technology. It would be digitized, broadband, intelligent, high-speed and personalized. The future of railway communication will be driven by the development of communication technology and information technology, so as to realize the digital optical communication access system with stable, reliable, high bandwidth, diverse service functions. In recent years, taking the optical fiber as the carrier of EPON access technology in China has been a very good and popular solution. The EPON network can well support the broadband access, VOIP business. The EPON standard is mature, convenient and flexible to deploy, relatively low cost, easy to maintain and extend. At the same time, it overcomes the copper wire transmission distance constraints, having high bandwidth capacity, easy to operate, high anti interference ability.To research the application of optical transmission technology and IP switching technology, develop zone optical access system, replace the existing copper cable transmission circuit switched mode, can solve the problem that the railway communication can not satisfy the informatization ofbusiness application, limited bandwidth, strong dependence on maintaining, poor safety and reliability.
