Crossed Field Amplifier(CFA)has been widely used in all kinds of advancedradar system due to its little volume, light weight, low voltage, coherent phase stabilityand high efficiency. The gain of CFA which is13to20dB abroad and is about13dBdomestically.The gain level is lower than the TWT and Klystron so as to weaken itscompetition advantage. But the cost of its RF drive power’s and radar complexity areincreased because of its lower gain. Therefore, it’s important to research on the ways ofenhancing CFA’s gain.Firstly the analysis of CFA is established by linear theory. The CFA’scharacteristic equation is got by using equivalent circuit equation and the Lorentz forceequation.The gain formula under little signal is provided, and some factors aboutCFA’s gain and some ways of enhancing gain of CFA are obtained.Then all kinds of ways of enhancing gain of CFA are discussed. All kinds ofways are compared and selected. Finally the way of enhancing gain of CFA is selectedby tapering the magnetic field. Some patterns of tapering the magnetic field areprovided. We simulate the CFA through PIC-MAGIC, and the design scheme proves tobe feasible.
