Optical fiber sensor technology is an emerging technology which is gradually formed with the emergence of the fiber and the development of optical fiber communication. After decades of development, it plays an increasingly prominent role in various industries now. Its main features are high sensitivity, anti-electromagnetic interference, a collection of sensing and transmission, and large dynamic range, etc. Because of these characteristics, it makes up many of the limitations of other sensors. It not only can measure a variety of physical quantities, such as pressure, strain, angular velocity, temperature, acceleration, etc. In the very narrow space, electromagnetic interference and high voltage, fiber optic sensors have also shown unique ability. It plays a huge role in industrial development, national defense construction, as well as many fields of people’s life.At present, the optical fiber sensor which is based on the monitoring technology has made a lot of practical applications, such as the leak monitoring of oil or gas pipeline, the security protection of airport or shipside, and the safety monitoring of tunnels, bridges, dams and power stations and the security in the flammable and explosive place, such as the oil depot, the ammunition depot, and the refueling stations. Optical fiber sensors monitoring technology has an important economic value and social significance.The anti-intrusion optical fiber fence alarm system is the main research object in this paper. Optical fiber fence is a new type of perimeter security systems. It has a very good application prospects in the future smart security fields. The main research work includes the following content.First of all, the optical fiber sensor is simply introduced, including the principle, classification, composition and characteristic feature of the optical fiber sensor. Then it introduces the present research status in the field of optical fiber sensing in both at home and abroad.Second, in this article we analyze the feasibility technical scheme of the optical fiber fence, propose a new kind of optical fiber fence alarm system based on the Michelson interferometer, analyze the working principle, system composition structure and signal demodulation method, then we simply introduce the actual application of the system in a substation and several kinds of the installation process, compare the several different installation process on the influence of the actual application, including the false positives, sensitivity, threshold size setting of the system monitoring, and the results have been analyzed.Finally, the prospect of the optical fiber fence in the future is proposed.
