Shadow Art is the product of the combination of the plastic arts and theater arts,and it is the treasures of traditional folk art. However, the current status of shadowpuppet is not optimistic, in particular, there are inevitable limitations in the "shadowcharacter" produced, shadow puppet performances, the spread and many other aspects.In contrast, digital Shadow Art can overcome these problems and make shadow puppetspread all over the world and accepted by more and more people.There are many shadow animations came into being in these years, but in theacademic fields, for other Chinese traditional art (such as painting, calligraphy, papercutting, etc.), there are a lot of researches about digitizing, and many fruitful resultshave been achieved, in contrast, there are too few researches about Shadow Art’sdigitizing. Therefore, how to make the ordinary three-dimensional model be a modelwith shadow style is a problem to be solved in this thesis.First, we design and implement a shadow stylized system, make architecture forshadow stylized drawing. This system uses ordinary three-dimensional model as a datasource, simulates the characteristics of the traditional shadow play from the stylizationof grid and texture mapping, and then generates three-dimensional model with the styleof shadow.Secondly, we implement a mesh segmentation algorithm based on plane, andimprove the algorithm to ensure the calculation of intersecting is executed only once foreach edge during a segmentation process, as a result, the amount of calculation isgreatly reduced and the efficiency of the implementation is improved.Thirdly, through analyzing the interactive mesh segmentation algorithm and thecharacteristic that shadow roles composed of11body parts, we make an improvedsegmentation algorithm based on reference line of the triangular grid. The meshsegmentation is based on several reference lines, and the complete model can be dividedinto several meaningful sub-components during only one segmentation process. Forth, taking the merger of similar strokes into account, we use a stylized drawingmethod based on stroke, implement stylized drawing of the shadow texture, and makethe result showing the effect of using large stroke to draw a large area.Finally, we use the key technology to implement the Shadowgraph stylized systemas designed.
