In recent years, with the development of the aerospace, information processing, biomedical, and microelectronic technology, micro-structured functional surface are widely used based on requirement-driven. Nowadays, the manufacture technologies of micro-structure functional surface are investigated by more and more scholars and researchers at home and abroad. At the same time, new processing methods are continuously emerging, of which the micro-cutting technology has becoming the main processing of the micro-structured surface due to the wide range of processing materials, low processing costs, high production efficiency and other advantages. In this paper, the effects of cutting parameters on surface integrity of micro-structured surface are investigated and the size effect in micro-cutting is proved to be existent by micro-cutting experiment combined with the finite element simulation. The main research contents are as follows:Finite element modeling and simulation for micro-cutting. Macro cutting mechanics based on classic continuum mechanics can’t illustrate the size effect during material deformation behavior at micro scale. Therefore, the strain gradient plasticity theory in the micro-cutting mechanics is applied to modify the conventional constitutive model on the basis of Johnson-Cook (JC) model in order to illustrate material deformation behavior at micro scale. Finite element model for micro-cutting is established based on the strain gradient plasticity theory by modify of user material subroutine in the ABAQUS/Explicit. With this model, the effect of cutting edge radius and cutting thickness on stress, equivalent plastic strain and chip deformation in the first cutting zone is analyzed. The size effect of the materials in micro-cutting process is proved to be existent by comparing with the macro-cutting.Research on the surface integrity of micro-cutting. The micro-structured surface generally has a high aspect ratio, and the cutting conditions will directly affect the realization and expression of the special functions of the micro-structure, so it is necessary to pay attention to the surface quality during micro-cutting process. In this paper, the effects of cutting parameters on the shape accuracy and surface quality of the micro-structured surface are investigated by micro-cutting experiments.Study on the application of micro-structured functional surface in information storage. With the development of green remanufacturing technology, the service life of mechanical products is increased greatly, and it is particularly important to record the information of mechanical product at different stages of processing in the life cycle. The application of micro-structured functional surface provides a new research direction for information storage. With the micro-cutting technology, unequal interval micro-groove structures are obtained combined with information coding technology, which can be used for information storage.
