Revising the development of the laser diode technology and decline in the price, the laser diode has become the most attractive in the solid state laser system. With the rapid development of laser technology and continuous research, the diode pumped slab laser amplifier has been used widely in many areas of material handing, industrial processing, and military and so on because of its relatively high peak power, stability, compact structure and good output beam quality. So it’s an important significance to research on the slab laser amplifier.In this paper, a series of theoretical studies and simulation around the end pumped slab laser amplifier. The main contents include:(1) By analyzing the four-level structure, the number of the particles in the steady state and the number of the inversion particles have been calculated. Meanwhile, the gain of the small gain in the gain medium has also been analyzed. The results show that: In the direction of the slab length, the population inversion and the small gain was reduced.(2) Using the geometrical optics method, the parameters, which affect the filling factor, are discussed and analyzed in detail. The incident angle of signal light, the slab cutting angle and the coefficient K were calculated. The results show that:Fill factor sometimes no matter with the incident angle of signal light, it was boarded with decreasing slab cutting angle and coefficient K.(3) A physics model of zigzag-slab laser amplifier is proposed. By means of the thin section and beam division method, the small signal gain in the slab under the condition of side-pumped is numerical calculated with Mat lab software. Moreover, in view of multi-pass amplifying, the space distribution of the signal beam in the slab is also discussed and simulated. The result show that:The output power about multi-pass amplifier is larger than the one-way.
