Vessel diameter measurement technology is a major issue in medical image research and has an important medical value to the research of diseases such as cardiovascular blockage. The precise vascular diameter measurement can not only accurately determine specific location of the vascular lesions, but also provide the necessary data to support the three-dimensional reconstruction of blood vessels. Therefore it has an important practical significance to the research of vessel diameter measurement techniques.For angiography images, the paper carried out a series of studies, including vascular segmentation, vascular centerline extraction and vessel diameter measurements. The paper focuses on the vessel diameter measurement method, and a new type of vessel diameter measurement algorithm is proposed. Also the experiment on the blood vessels of interest is conducted in matlab7.0environment. The main works of the paper are as follows:(1) The entire process of diameter measurements is realized:the feature map of vessel, extraction of vascular centerline, measurement of vascular diameter. Vascular segmentation based on the feature map can get the outline of the blood vessels, vascular direction and a variety of topology structure information; Skeleton algorithm based on level set can extract the smooth, continuous, single-pixel distribution of vascular centerline, and the accuracy of the algorithm can reach sub-pixel level. This is ready for the diameter measurement.(2) On the basis of the analysis to the topology of blood vessels, the paper presents a vessel diameter measurement algorithm based on MOM evaluation model. The algorithm is combined with the vascular centerline and center points’direction to start iterative measurement. It uses that the two edge lines of blood vessels are symmetrical relative to the centerline, combined with the direction relationship of the edge line and centerline of blood vessels. A scalable parallel detector model is proposed accordingly, which incorporates the optimization evaluation ideas. The experimental results show that the algorithm has high accuracy, good stability, not only can improve the accuracy of diameter measurement, but also can solve the vascular diameter measurement problem on the branch and overlap.(3) The MoM evaluation model can apply for diameter measurement, the edge of the blood vessels can be detected accurately at the same time. In the experiment, polynomial curve fitting, the Gaussian curve fitting and the MoM evaluation model method are used for detecting the edge points respectively. The results show that the method of MoM evaluation model applies to extract edge points with the best continuity effect and the highest stability.
