Distance education is the Beijing Radio and Television University’s main teaching model, the characteristics of experimental teaching put forward new demands for distance education. We applied for the subject project-"Web-based ’router configuration’virtual simulation environment for research and implementation ",so that the students can do experiment at any place in anytime. We created a virtusl experimental system to provide the students with a simulation platform by studying the virtual technology. Collision detection is an important virtual experimental system technology. This article will focus on the implementation of collision detection in virtual experiment system technologyBy reasearching the collision detection algorithms and the related technologies,this article decrebled the hierarchical bounding box which is widely used and compared every bounding box algorithm.We selected different bounding box algorithm for different virtual objects in every experimental system.We analysis functional requirements and non-functional requirements of the virtual experiment system and provide students with a realistic, rich, interactive three-dimensional simulation platform. We selected VRML、WireFusion as virtual tools which describled the virtual experiments. This article descrebled the method and process that using WireFusion inplement the virtual experiments.When we design the collision detection algorithm for the virtual system, we encountered the following problem:collision detection can be implemented between avatar and scene in VRML.When the collision detection occurred between objects, VRML can not meet the needs of interactive virtual experiments.After a large numger of repeated experiments and research, we found a method.Though WireFusion, we can convert the file format to achieve the purpose of collision detection between object. This paper described the method and process of collision detection algorithms in the virtual system by WireFusion.This study achieved a virtual environment by which students can conduct the experiments in Internet. We found a collision detection algorithm to solve the problem which collision detection can’t be implemented between objects in VRML.
