With the rapid development of transportation and the automotive industry, traffic accident is increasingly serious. If driver can predict upcoming traffic accident and take timely measures to avoid collision, The occurrence of accident will reduce. Considering that deficiencies of narrow visual angle and short sight distance in the existing active anti-collision system, inter-vehicle wireless communication network is introduced in this paper to make driver to get real-time movement of other vehicles out visual angle and sight distance, and vehicle collision pre-warning system will alarm to enable driver to predict and avoid potential collision, which has the important practical value and significance for the traffic safety research.This paper develops a360°all-round vehicle collision pre-warning system based on vehicle to vehicle wireless communication network——vehicle collision pre-warning system. The driving data of the vehicle node is collected by GPS unit and transmitted to other vehicle nodes in communication range by wireless communication unit, and the driving data from other vehicle node is received by the self-vehicle node. The two driving data are processed by vehicle safety distance model to get the relative position of the two vehicle nodes which is displayed on the vehicle LCD via graphical interface, then getting the two-vehicle’s dangerous alarm distance is to predict collision. If it is potential collision, alarm unit immediately alarms and the vehicle’s icon on the self-vehicle’s LCD is continously glitterring, which alerts driver to take measures to avoid collision.The software and hardware of the node and the wireless network protocol are designed, and vehicle safety distance model is developed. The simulate test and field test indicate this system can accurately monitor real-time road condition around self-vehilce in the static and low dynamic environment and well be ahead of the anti-collision preparation, which is improved traffic safety is feasible and effective.
