With the popularity of computer network application, the Internet has a dramatic development all over the world with a rapid growth in the network users and bandwidth. The computer network permeates every corner of people’s life, we rely on the network not only for the information but also the convenience it offers. At the same time, a large number of Local Area Networks are established by enterprises or institutions, functioning as a platform of sharing information and improving work efficiency. Accompany with variety kinds of network applications, hardware platforms and protocols, the network has become more and more complicated, which also brings us a lot of tough problems on network management, network security and network behavior analysis. In this circumstance, creation of a full-featured, maintainable Local Area Network management system is quite essential and also has great practical value. The LAN’s structures and three common LAN protocols, TCP/IP, NETBEUI and IPX/SPX protocols, are introduced first in the paper. Based on the research above, the paper introduces a commercial LAN management system’s working pattern and specific functions which the author participated in. The design and implementation of some important function modules are described in the paper. In the function of abnormal flow analysis, the author studies the regular pattern of nomal Trojan, designs a abnormal flow detection module named debot. Then the thesis discusses the classification of network users’ behavior, compares Leader-follower algorithm with K-means algorithm, and gives a corresponding analysis result. Next, the paper discusses implementation of another two important functions in details:ID card authentication login system module and document storage sub-system module. Finally the auther give the LAN management system a comprehensive pressure testing. From the feedback we know the hardware config can offer the system a stable support. From the thesis’s result, it can be concluded that the system can fulfill the network mamagement functions and meet the design requirements.
