Wireless local area networking has experienced tremendous attention in recent years with the proliferation of IEEE 802.11 devices. And the demand of real-time multi-media business which is transferred in WLAN is increasing as well. In order to support the high speed transfer, the key technology at physical and MAC layer should be improved. IEEE work group drafted 802.11a amendment in 2008, targeting the realization of 1Gbps throughput at least. China communication standard association (CCSA) actively took part in the standard drafting, and made great progress at Chinese effective channelization, yet some issues should be solved such as compatibility and coexistence. On the other hand, we need utilize system bandwidth effectively to support new generation high-speed wireless LAN, and cognitive radio (CR) which was proposed in recent year can enlarge system bandwidth utilization. In this paper, we firstly researched the theory about spectrum detection and sensing technology in high-speed wireless LAN and these technologies’current development situation. Combining the national science and technology major project, we built the simulation platform and took some research and verification for energy detection algorithm; and then, aiming at the Chinese effective channelization, we introduced the utilization strategy about overlapping channel and proposed a solution to solve the compatibility. At last, we made some simulation for energy detection algorithm and its implement using FPGA. We also summarized the advantage of spectrum sensing and the future of WLAN.
