DTN(Delay Tolerant network) is a new type of wireless mobile ad hoc networks. In recent years it has been a hotly debated. The transmission mechanism of end to end of DTN is subverted by jump to jump, because of nodes’function of storage-carry-forward. The mult-jump of the nodes is using as the background, to make up for the limited transmission distance of the wireless devices, to broaden the network’s transmission range. To improve the efficiency of packet transmission between nodes, the paper put forward the location information in the nodes. When a node transmits the packets, it will ask itself whether it is in the find area. If it is in the find area, it will transmit the packets. Otherwise it will discard the packets. The paper chooses NS2 as the simulation platform for different network environment and different routing protocol. The paper’s content includes the following sections:1. Analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of routing protocol in the DTN and the methods of improving the efficiencyAt first, list all the existing routing protocol of DTN. Through the theoretical to analyze their advantages and limitations,Including the analysis of each routing protocol in the average delay time, the arrival rate, the network overhead and other specific parameters. Secondly, the paper analyzes some methods which would improve the efficiency of protocols. Because the existing routing protocols waste the network resources, so the paper put forward a method which adding location information to limit the transmition area to improve the efficiency of routing protocols.2. The algorithm based on location information are describedThe contents of this section includes: the rectangular mechanism based on LAR, the distance mechanism based on LAR, theαangle mechanism based on DREAM and user-defind mechanism.3. Simulation of adding location informationThis part of contents includes: adding location information in the original routing protocol program, writing scripts to configure the network topology, writing cbrgen and setdest secondary program to achieve the DTN network simulation.4. Quantitative analysis of simulation results obtain the routing protocol performance to improve. Using gawk which is a simulation tool to analyze the Trace files generated by simulation process, using Xgraph which is a drawing tool to draw the specific parameters pictures, and examining the improve situation after adding the location information in the original routing protocol program.
