The development trend of sheet metal processing equipment, the present situation ofintelligent bending system and the advantages of gantry robot in bending process areintroduced in this paper.The parameters (Including the maximum load, the maximum size of the object to bemachined, the5axis’ stroke and it’s rated speed etc) of the bending robot aredetermined on the results of the technical research, and the robot is designed accordingto the required parameters. The finite element model of the bending robot’s importantcomponents is established. Make use of finite element software to compute it’s strengthand stiffness. A simplified finite element model of the bending robot is established,and modal analysis of it is done to extract the first six natural frequencies and modalitiesin Lanczos method, the structure improvement program is put forward according to theresults. The follow action of the bending process is studied (including the analysis ofdisplacement、velocity、acceleration). According to the results, we choose the motioncontroller for bending robot and carry out PVT mode control, and the deviation isanalyzed by simulation methods. In the bending test for different sizes and differentthickness metal sheets, it also achieve the follow action. We also analyzed the robot’sapplication in other industries.By these analysis, we accomplished the robot’s design at last. In the prototype’stesting, the response is good. In the marketing, it also praised by the customers.
