With the wider use of the Internet, the people’s requirement for bandwidth is severer, sopeople have to face the congestion problem of the Internet. ATM switching networks, as one ofthose Internets, can not avoid the problem. Therefore, a more effective congestion controlmethod is needed.The first part of the dissertation mainly introduces something about ATM switchingnetwork, including general situation, technical character and development in the future, and thensays something about network model, the quality of server, the types of server, congestioncontrol etc.The second part of this dissertation introduces the congestion of the ATM switchingnetworks and the need of the new control methods, and afterwards mainly offers us the problemthat it will discuss, in the mean time analyses the characters of the former methods. Then sometheories are given, including the theory of ATM and adaptive control. A new congestion controlmethod based on those is brought forward——Cells Package Discard Based on AdaptiveControl Theory, and the thought of the adaptive control can be found in the new congestioncontrol method. Under the same condition, the new method can improve the transmissionperformance of the ATM switching networks. This dissertation not only introduces the newcontrol method, but offers us its math model as well, and then discusses its working dynamicstatus. Finally, it proves the new method by mathematic means, and the conclusion indicatesthat this new control method is absolutely feasible and supported by the theories.The last part, the implementation part of the dissertation, unites all the other parts of thedissertation. First it gives us the object parameters, then experiments with the new congestioncontrol method by emulation mode. The results indicate that the new method is better thanothers, and its performance is satisfying.
