During these years, mode-locked fiber lasers have been developed to be a very important branch of ultra-short pulse laser technologies due to their compact sizes, superior performances, flexible structures and abundant mode-locking mechanisms. These kinds of lasers cause wide-spread academic interests. However, the scaling of power generation from mode-locking fiber lasers based on conventional fibers is limited by excess nonlinearity until Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) was invented. PCF has many excellent characteristics which solved the problem on the nonlinearity in high power fiber lasers and upgraded their performance. Mode-locking laser based on PCF provide a new and reliable solution to achieve low cost and intergraded high-energy femtosecond lasers. The main contents of this article include:1. A numerical model of mode-locked photonic crystal fiber laser is built, which is used to simulate the pulse dynamics in the fiber laser. The influence of the gain and bandwidth of filters are analyzed. Following the simulation, experimental researches are finished and prove the results of the simulation.2. A new kind of dissipative-soliton mode-locking laser based on PCF is experimentally investigated. Laser pulses with 10W average power, 202nJ of single pulse energy and 1.03ps of pulse duration are achieved from the fiber laser.3. A totally new prototype laser is designed and set up. The average power of the laser can get 4.8W at 117MHz repetition rate. The single pulse energy is 41nJ and the pulse duration is 600fs. The performance of fiber laser made great progress.4. A super-continuum light source prototype laser is designed and set up based on PCF mode-locking laser. The average power of the light can achieve 2W. The spectrum covers from 600nm to 1750nm.
