With the development of information society and globalization, the demand forlifelong learning has been progressively increasing. Under its influence, educationalreform in our country has been proceeding in a rapid way. At the same time,quality-oriented education gains great momentum. However, deeply entrenchedtraditional model of education and teaching causes barrier to English teachingtransformation. As a result, educational reforms have not produced the desiredoutcome, which undermines the teaching quality. Recently, many new education ideasbegin to emerge, among which cultivation education meets the requirements oflifelong learning and lifelong education in theory. Students should not be blindlyinstilled text knowledge. They need to develop a series of scientific learning habits inthe teaching process. Through developing scientific learning habits and acquiringrational way of learning, students lay a solid foundation for social adaptation andfurther learning.This thesis incorporates the theory of acculturation and English teaching modelto explore the effective way to achieve lifelong education and learning. It is dividedinto six parts. The core problem is posed in the first part where the author introducesthe background knowledge of cultivation education, the trend and importance oflifelong education and the dilemma of the present English teaching. Besides, theauthor sets the research target and illustrates its importance in the practical teaching.In the second part, the author elaborates its theoretical underpinnings, and tries toexplain the ways in which the habits cultivated later work and how it influencesstudents’ behaviors. In the third part, the author discusses the present conditions ofcultivation education at home and abroad. In the fourth part, the author describes theresearch procedures, carries out an experiment, monitors the research procedures andcollects the relevant data. In the fifth part, the author makes a series of analysis of theresearch procedures and data, showing the effects which the habits cultivation has onthe English teaching. In the sixth part, the conclusion is drawn, the limitation and the implication for future research are addressed.In sum, this research maps out the inherent connection between cultivationeducation and lifelong learning and education. The author attempts to call Chineseeducators’ attention, and highlights the importance of learning habit cultivation toEnglish learning. The application of habit cultivation to English teaching serves toturn education into lifelong learning.
