Abstract/Summary:
With the new English Curriculum, teachers are increasingly paying attention toapplying scientific and diversified teaching methods in the English class. Therein,"problem-based teaching method" has aroused wide concern by many educationresearchers and frontline teachers, as it emphasizes the heuristics and guidance ofteachers’ ways of teaching and pays close attention to the independence andcreativity of students learning style. Although "Problem-based teaching method" isnot an unconventional new term, it is endowed with the new meaning for the newcurriculum background and concept: it is a teaching method which regards problemsas the center, which requires teachers scientifically design the problem situation, ablyguide students to provide the queries, come up with questions based on the studentscognitive regularity and reality, for which students can know the knowledge well,develop the intelligence and cultivate the skill in the thinking activity of seeking andexploring the solutions to problems. The basic part of this method includes: creatingproblem situations, finding and putting forward questions, analyzing and solving theproblems. For the application of the problem-based teaching method in the Englishteaching of senior high school, teachers use heuristics and guidance in teaching, andstudents think independently, participating in class activities actively under thepurposeful and planned way of teachers, thus students can creatively get Englishknowledge and skill ultimately. This knowledge and skill are not obtained through thesimple teaching way from teachers, but through students’ participation and activeexploration, which can be easily changed into students’ own knowledge and lifelongskill. This paper guides the English teaching of high school on the basis of three stepsabout the problem-based teaching method, including "creating question situationsand stimulating interests of students" and "guiding them to ask questions","helpingand guiding them to analyze and solve problems" through discussing the necessityand significance for the application of the teaching method in high school, moreover,clarifying the concrete practice in Welcome to this unit&reading, Grammar&usage,Project in Advance with English. This paper is to explore effective teaching methods about the English teaching in high school, help teachers to adjust their teachingmethods, improve their quality of teaching. The writer hopes the research resultingin this paper is helpful to the improvement of English teaching in high school.
