With the rapid development of China’s tourism industry, the tourism highereducation shows its great development potential. Along with the continuousdevelopment of higher education in the tourism and travel, we need to continue tointroduce the foreign advanced teaching concepts and models to keep the tourismhigher education developing. The scholars had found that the situational teachingmodel played an important role in teaching. In the situational scenes,students’interests could be stimulated and the students would like to participate in teachingactively. The students could acquire a new system of knowledge based on theiroriginal experience and knowledge. In the process of constructing the system ofknowledge, the situational teaching model pays more attention to cultivating students’exploration awareness, developing students’ higher order thinking skills and formingstudents’ self-learning ability. So this paper tries to apply the situational teachingmodel to improve the teaching effectiveness and train more tourism talents.From the observations of Tourism Culture course in the typical representativetourism colleges,we could find that various Tourism Culture courses are in theconventional teaching model framework system. Meanwhile,in the conventionalteaching of the Tourism Culture course still has some problems. In the teacher-ledclassroom, students are just the receivers of the knowledge; Students’ awareness ofexploration is deficient and their self-learning ability needs to be improved; Theteacher-student interaction is not enough and the emotional bonds which connectteachers and students haven’t been established. According to the conventionalteaching, in accordance with the situational teaching model’s operating proceduresand the Tourism Culture course’s content, the situational teaching model applicationdesign research is in the progress. Including the design of teaching goals, the stepsand methods of situational teaching, the methods of evaluating teaching effect,whichpave the way for exploring the effect of the implementation of situational teachingcases. The situational teaching effectiveness of Tourism Culture course could befound through observation and in-depth interview. The result illustrates that thesituational teaching model contributes to the achieving teaching goals, stimulating thelearning enthusiasm of the students, making students the main part in class,cultivating exploration awareness of students and improving harmonious relationship between students and teachers.Of course, there are few problems in Tourism Culture course’s situational teaching.Such as the difficulty of keeping the class in order. This paper puts forward somepertinent suggestions. Such as making sufficient preparations before class. In short,the implementation of situational teaching model not only provides new ideas for thefuture development of the Tourism Culture course patterns, but also promote theteaching quality of the Tourism Culture and cultivate outstanding professionals for theprogress of tourism.
