| The last-seconds are crucial in basketball games, and everyplayer and coach who worth his salt has the responsibility to masterthe art of designing and implementing plays reasonably andeffectively in this special and complex moment. NBA games serve asthe top level of professional basketball league, its classic last-secondplays show highly representativeness and reference, and thedeveloping of CBA games are aching for learning from the NBA games,so the comparative study of plays and characteristics in last-secondbetween NBA and CBA has a certain practical significance. This paper collected80game cases from NBA games and80gamecases from CBA games of2010-2011season,2011-2012season and2013-2013season, and each game case is limited in last24secondsand the points difference between the two competitor is no biggerthan6points(include6points), then analyze the last-second plays inNBA and CBA games in three aspects based on the cases collected. first, making the comparative study of the overall offensive anddefensive plays between NBA and CBA when the team is leading, falling behind or equaling in points, making the comparative study ofunconventional plays such as the use of timeout, intentional foul and3point shots in last-second between NBA and CBA games, third, making a comparative study of the setting characteristic, way ofreceiving the ball and attacking the basket of NBA and CBA games. The conclusions show that:(1)the overall attacking and defensingfeatures in NBA and CBA games are the same, but there are alsodifferences. First, teams falling behind will consistently speed up theattack, intentional foul serves as the signature defensive feature, andthe intentional foul tendency of teams falling behind in NBA is moreobvious. Second, leading teams will consistently protecting the ball, control ling the ball to avoid the the foul employed by the opponent orcontrolling the attacking rhythm to eating the time up, and in regulardefense, man-to-man defense is the first choice of NBA and CBAteams. Third, when the score is locked in a stalemate, both NBA andCBA teams will slow down the offensive rhythm and eat the clock andmake sure that their opponent won’t get time to offense when theyfinish the offense. Most of time, they employ perimeter individualoffense and back-court man-to-man defense.(2) In unconventionalplays, both teams has the characteristics of frequently asking for timeout, intentional foul and shoot quick3-point goals in last-second,and the relationship between these strategies are close, and NBAteams employ these strategies much more than CBA teams. But whenthe teams are leading or their score is locked in a stalemate, theyrarely use these strategies. Both of them have a strongconsciousness of shooting quick3-point goals in last-second, and theshooting areas they choose are the same as the whole, butdifferences show that NBA teams tend to shoot the quick3-point goalat the3-point arc and the two wings, while CBA teams like shooting attwo wings. The difference of3-point shooting percentage betweenquick shot and normal shot is significant in NBA, while in CBA are not.(3) In out-of-bounds plays, both teams tend to set in a “Box Formationâ€,when they fall behind, but the set up of NBA teams are more tacticalwhile in many time CBA teams begin the out-of-bounds plays with noset up or with a decentralized setting. When the score is leading, NBAteams often get players spread all over the court, while CBA teamsspread the players in the half court. when the score is locked in astalemate, the NBA teams still like setting a Box Formation while CBAteams’ set up have a varied forms. The attacking plays in theout-of-bounds plays, the teams falling behind will employ the quickattack, most of them attack the hoop directly, while, sometimes, CBAteams will choose set offense when the gap is not that big. When inbounding the ball, almost every NBA teams will be fouled byattentional, while in CBA games this phenomenon is not so obvious. When the score is locked in a stalemate, both teams play the setoffense and defense, but in many cases NBA teams attack the hoopdirectly. |
