A Comparative Study On Centralized Arrangement Of "Solving-Probiem" In Primary Mathematics Textbooks

In the new curriculum reform in China started from2001,a major feature in the "standard" is the ability of solving problem as one of the four goals in mathematics education.Based on the new curriculum ideas,the editor take "solving-problem" instead of traditional word problems and use dispersed arrangement and centralized arrangement instead of artificially classification before.Currently,the centralized arrangement of "solving-problem" in the representative PEP and Jiangsu primary mathematics textbooks are different which compiled by different editor.The research take the PEP and Jiangsu primary mathematics textbooks as example and divided the centralized arrangement of solving problem into two parts based on their characteristics:One is "Math Square and explore the law" in PEP primary mathematics textbooks and "problem-solving strategies and explore the law" in Jiangsu primary mathematics textbooks which containing typical mathematical thinking,the other one is "Practice and Comprehensive Application" in both mathematics textbook which has practical, comprehensive and application characteristics.The content of these two parts are new from curriculum reform.This paper compare the centralized arrangement of "solving-problem" from arrangement system,material sources, content arrangement, text expression,and the presentation and obtain these conclusion:(1)The arrangement of "Math Square and explore the law" in PEP primary mathematics textbooks and "problem-solving strategies and explore the law" in Jiangsu version are both in accordance with the basic requirements of the mathematics curriculum standards.The two versions reflects the science of mathematics learning in content arrangement,has diverse material sources and colorful text expression,but still has no significant reality background and less mathematics activities in the second learning stage.Otherwise the text expression of Jiangsu version are more interesting,the content arrangement and the presentation are more in accordance with modern psychological theory which can be advance organizers and scaffold.Furthermore the material presentation is more reasonable which can arouse students’potential experience.(2)The arrangement of "Practice and Comprehensive Application" in both primary mathematics textbooks in arrangement system.material sources and content arrangement reflects the basic requirements of mathematics curriculum standards (experimental version) about "Practice and Comprehensive Application",however, the arrangement of both version is not systematical,and the inquiry spirit in content arrangement of Jiangsu primary mathematics textbooks is not obvious.Otherwise both version should consider the topic quantity carefully and the rural background are less.Based on the conclusion of comparisons,this paper can propose suggestion for textbook Compilation and teaching as follows:(1)the two version can learn from each other in arrangement system which will be more systematic.The content arrangement in PEP version can use advanced organization to reduce the learning difficulty.The PEP version should also design more visualized content to arouse the students’ potential experience.Otherwise the two version can reduce no significant reality background and put more interesting mathematical activities.(2)The two version can make some content of Practice and Comprehensive Application into system as "designing school". Secondly,the two version can set compulsory and elective topic to suit different district and school,and increase the countryside subject.Furthermore the Jiangsu version can decrease the virtual mathematical contexts in the first learning stage and make more inquiry spirit in the second learning stage.Otherwise the PEP version can provide more materials to offer more mathematics activities for students.(3)When teaching,teacher can study the two version of primary mathematics textbooks and make content reorganization based on the advantages and disadvantages of two version to get better teaching effects.
