At this stage, our college students’ideological and political consciousness has substantially higher standards. They are firm patriot, support the party and national policy. However, due to the impact of the internal and external environment, there are some problems in the ideological and political consciousness. For example, somebody’s faith is not firm, worships money and so on. In recent years, although the major students’ideological and political consciousness has improved by leaps and bounds, there are some certain issues in the contemporary ideological and political situation.Culture is the carrier of national spirit and excellent traditional culture is an indispensable part of the state and the nation. As a country with a long history, China has extensive and profound excellent traditional culture. With the history changing, generation after generation of literati poet grow up under the influence of the excellent traditional culture. At the meantime, generation after generation of Chinese carry forward the excellent traditional culture. Its ideological values and humanistic value nourish batch after batch of "Chinese Backbone". It fully embodies the Chinese national spirit and national feelings. Nowadays, as an inexhaustible cultural resource, the essence of excellent traditional culture is still supplying the public and playing an important role in contemporary ideological and political education of college students. The ideological and political education of college students must work closely relying on the banner of traditional Chinese culture. In the economic globalization today, how to strengthen the ideological and political education of college students is a big problem.The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the problems and reasons of the students in the ideological and political education by pull, to discuss the value of the ideological and political education of the Chinese excellent traditional culture for contemporary college students, and to seek the application of excellent traditional culture in the ideological and political education. This article applies the Marxist in practice in depth study of the problems existing in the current ideological and political education of college students by combining with the status quo of China’s excellent traditional culture for reaching the excellent traditional Chinese culture in the ideological and political education. This paper is divided into four parts.The first section describes the overview of the traditional Chinese culture and the ideological and political education, including the characteristics of the excellent traditional culture of China and the development of ideological and political education, for the purpose of making readers have a preliminary understanding of the concept.The second part is about the significance of the survey and to strengthen the ideological and political education of college students. At first, a brief description of the object as well as the basic background of the survey has been introduced, by the analysis of the survey and the ideological characteristics of contemporary college students. Then discussing the importance of strengthening the ideological and political education of college students:first, strengthen ideological and political education of college students is to promote the quality of education of students cornerstone; second, strengthen ideological and political education of college students is an important task of higher education reform; Third to strengthen the ideological and political education of college students is a related to the major events of the nation’s future and the future of the country.The third part discusses a series of problems and the reasons in the ideological and political education of college students. Problems existing in the ideological and political education of college students are having weak political consciousness and the lack of a sense of social responsibility, integrity and poor awareness. There are many reasons, such as the impact of the market economy, the East-West Cultural Trends, etc. At last, it finds the reasons depicturing from the students themselves.The fourth part introduces some ways how to come true the value of Chinese excellent traditional culture in contemporary ideological and political education. There are a variety of ways. Such as, we can create a good social environment:first, there is good contemporary society for the growth and development of the environment of the university students. Second, the influence of parents on their children is crucial to create a good family atmosphere. Moreover, the good campus environment is necessary. The last one is the ideological and political education about the Chinese excellent traditional culture, such as providing the necessary hardware and software.
