Twenty first century is an era of knowledge-based economy, during this period, International competition is fiercer than ever before, human’s existence and development are in the face of difficulties, so, to cultivate the man with high scientific knowledge and humanistic spirit seems to be more and more important, this will demand to acquire the basic learning tools such as reading, literacy, oral expressing, calculation and problem-solving, and to have the basic knowledge, skills, correct opinions of value and attitudes. Only with these, we can survive, live with honors, show our talent fully and take part in the social development actively, but now the burden of entering a higher school still exists, the focus of the social and school is on teaching the students knowledge, especially the intelligence of language and mathematical logical reasoning, but less of space, sports, music and etc, so how can the students improve their talents of performance and creation?In view of above considerations, we discuss the Performance-based Learning, analysis its meaning, character, and value theoretically, explore its theory base—Learn in action, Multiple Intelligences, Need hierarchy theory and theory of achievement intelligence, construct the process of implementation of Performance-based Learning, summarize its specific teaching strategies, and at last take a secondary class as the target,trial the Performance-based Learning to explore the feasibility of implementation process of this learning method.Performance-based Learning is a kind of learning method that needs students to performance in a real circumstance, so as to develop their expressing and creational talent. Here, performance has two parts of meanings, the first one is performance with hands, the second one is show or express, it emphasizes on learning in the real life for students, that is learning in action, release themselves, show themselves fully in the process of learning, and use their knowledge, skills that they have learned before, that is " Learn to use " and " Learn to show "The process of Performance-based Learning has four links, including making clear the task, analyzing the task, performing the task and evaluating the task. Making clear the task is actually determining the task, analyzing the task has two parts, designing the task and preparing for it, performing the task means the implementation of the activity, and the last one, evaluating the task is summing. The specific teaching strategies of Performance-based Learning includes designing scientific and reasonable task so as to let students performance actively, creating proper task so as to make students performance willingly, and inquiring the multiple evaluation systems of Performance-based Learning.According to the theoretical structure and manipulated procedure above, we do a survey at a Primary School, a Middle School and a college in Xinyang of Henan province, which as a basis of the practice, we conduct an activity of Performance-based Learning in a class of an college, to test the operability of this kind of learning method.
