During the course of learning language, affective factors have played an importantrole in foreign language acquisition in the recent years. With the development of theeducational theories, emotional attitudes and values have been incorporated into the newcurriculum standards and are put on the teaching agenda. However, conservativeteaching methods are still popular in China. Teachers always pay more attention to thegrades, ignore the phenomenon of students’ emotional development, but pay lessattention to cultivating learners’ affective factors. As we all know, affection accounts forforeign language learning. Different attitudes, motivation and personality characteristicsinfluence the learners directly. General secondary schools receive average scores inEnglish, even some students have poor grades and after two years English learning inmiddle school, polarization become increasingly. Students get stressed out and feel tiredon English Learning when they are in Grade Nine, so this paper aims to explore theeffects of affective teaching in English class on the grades for Grade Nine withquantitative and qualitative research methods.This paper first reviews the theoretical research related to affective factors at home andabroad, which are the foundations of the study about the affective teaching in Grade Nine. Inthis paper, the use of hierarchy theory, emotion theory, cognitive theory, constructivist theoryprovide theoretical support for affective teaching and the results of scientific analysis.This study selected two paralleled classes of Grade Nine from NO.29Middle School inAnshan Liaoning as the experiment class and the control class. The data are collected throughpre-test and post-test, questionnaires and face-to-face interviews.Through experiments and surveys, we get a conclusion that the use of affective teachingmethods can promote students’ feelings towards English learning, cultivate positive emotions,produce a strong interest in learning, turn pressure into motivation and promote theirintegrated developments. Experimental results will be applied in teaching, especially forGrade Nine.
