Ethnic students study Chinese, English and their mother tongues at the same time in high school. English teachers should advocate TBLT to combine the ethnic culture with English learning, in order to improve the students’learning interests on English and develop their self-learning strategies.TBLT focuses on the situation design in the classroom, in order to achieve a comprehensive development in cognition, emotion and linguistic competence. Especially, it highlights the sense of belongings and emotional influences in the teaching process. The integration of TBLT with Mongolian ethnic culture in English teaching is full of emotional elements.The thesis is based on a teaching experiment in Bazhou Mongolian Senior High School in2011, where seventy-six third-grade Mongolian students from two intact classes are involved. It not only elaborates the basic model of TBLT with examples, but also highlights the sequencing and integrating of teaching materials, according to the Mongolian students’nationality. According to questionnaires and test data analysis, it proposed two hypotheses:First, the integration of ethnic culture and TBLT is more effective than the traditional teaching methods in English class at Mongolian senior high school. Second, the integration of ethnic culture and TBLT improve the Mongolian students’interests toward English learning. The result shows that the integration of ethnic culture with TBLT not only arouses Mongolian students’interests in English learning, but also improves their confidence to express themselves in English in class and desires to seek for relevant information on the Internet. The test result demonstrated the Mongolian students’listening competence was more stable and both reading and cloze had a dramatic improvement, but their composition and spelling reduced. The thesis suggests that more Mongolian culture, local news and multimedia teaching in the process of integration.
