Private middle school in Changsha is one important part of the education of Hunan in early modern times. Influenced by the historical background, economical situation, ideology and culture at that time, private middle schools in Changsha experienced the newly-founded phase in late Qing dynasty and preliminary development phase in early modern times.Mingde, Zhounan are both well-reputated representatives which arised at this time. They developed their own unique attributes in aspects like education mission, teaching quality, sources of students, class designing and internal management. They represented the direction of private education in Hunan, having a positive effects to the revolution career at that time. But because of the turbulent political situation and limited experience, there still existed many flaws in the operation of private schools in Hunan.Now, China is experiencing a private education surge. And the development history of private schools in that period could provide a lot of valuable experiences. To deal with the difficulty of insufficient funding and incomplete legal system, the operator of private education should continue our grand tradition, keep the spirit of inselfishness in mind, take measures to promote the career of private education in Changsha.
