Abstract/Summary:
In the early19th century Western missionaries came to Korea to preach the Christian gospel and established a Christian school and the history of Korea’s modern higher education began with the establishment of a Christian college. In Korea,100years ago founded Soongsil University, Yonsei University, Ewha Women’s University and including over60colleges and universities are currently as establishing philosophy advocating the spirit of Christianity.However, Christian character and identity of most of South Korea Christian University is fading and day by day is becoming secularized. As the education activerty of Christian University deployed because of several factors academic excellence is enhanced gradually and while aspects of Christian education continually weakened.This study through the historical development of the Korea Christian University look at the impact on Korea society and higher education and in conjunction with the status of Korea Christian University raised the issue that Christian University is facing the secularization, also investigated in the future Christian University how to sustain and develop the identity and academic excellence of the Christian University and in the higher education system of modern society whether how much to maintain the excellence as a Christian university.This paper is divided into the introduction, body and conclusion.Introduction through research background and status of the Korea Christian University comment theoretical significance and practical value of thesis subject selecting.The body is divided into three parts:In the first part, delineate the definition of a Christian University and the Korea Christian University’s historical development and characteristics of each period.In the second part, brief look of the founding ideals and educational purposes of several universities in South Korea and a number of factors of South Korea’s society and higher education systems facilitated the process of secularization of Christianity University. Because of this, Korea Christian University in many ways has lost its original appearance. From this fact, analysis what is major crisis of the Korea Christian University is facing and by comparing the case of Korean and U.S. Christian University, will propose how to respond and what to take any action to secularization. In the third part, examines the future direction and prospects of the Korea Christian University and will seek future direction.At the conclusion, analysis and summary the factors of promoting secularization, facing crisis and future challenges of the Korea Christian University and provide feedback.
