One of the main tendencies of mathematical curriculum reform in basic education is that emphasize the position of mathematical application in the course.At present the application questions of equation model is both key and difficult points in mathematics teaching in junior middle school. Analyse the typical mistakes and reasons in solving application questions of equation model, which can help to improve the teaching quality.The focus of this study is on some typical mistakes and the attribution of the middle school students, who have finished their middle-school application questions of equation model learning. The author first to classify the application questions of equation model in junior middle school, then works out the practice,test and questionnaire.The test is carried out through328students from three different levels of schools. Then the author makes the attributive analysis according to the test and questionnaire results and students’interview.Test results show typical mistakes in students’application questions solving of equation model which are as follows:1. It often appears the phenomenons that the students can’t understand or incorrectly understand the meaning of problems in analysing the problems. Those are analyse the problems not carefully, or cannot consider the problem in all its aspects, or confusion and unclear ideas in analysing the problems, or choose the inappropriate methods to examine the topic, and so on.2. The students easy to forget to take the unit of the unknown or be wrong to express the unit when suppose the unknown number. In addition there are still quite a few students who don’t know how to choose or suppose the unknown number and choose the inappropriate unknown number.3. The main mistakes in using equations to solve the application questions are as follows: confuse the related concepts, use the formulas wrongly, no unified dimension, different meaning on both sides of the equation, signify the algebraic expression wrongly, and so on.4. When solve the equations, the students have small difficult in solving once basic linear equation, but part of students don’t know how to solve the linear equation group with two unknowns, especially the quadratic equation.5. When check and answer, there are62.1percent students would answer with not check the solution whether accord with the actual meaning,30.3percent students forget to answer. Although28.4percent of the students answer, they forget to write the unit.According to the analysis of teachers’and students’interview and questionnaire, the main wrong reasons in students’application questions solving of equation model are those the ability of reading comprehension is poor, which lead to wrongly understand the means of problems. The students cannot abstract the actual problems into maths problems because of the mathematical ability is poor. It’s difficult to translate the solution of application questions from the arithmetic solution into algebra solution, which is write the equation model. Lack of the strategic and algorithm of knowledge in the process of solving problems, self-monitoring ability is quite low, and so on.Based on the above research conclusion, the author puts forward some related proposals for application questions of equation model teaching.
