Therefore, how to get rid of the problem of homogenization, how to overcome the shortage ofschool-running resources, and how to achieve the leaping development need to be taken intoserious consideration by local engineering colleges. Based on the detailed analysis andcomparison of engineering colleges at home and abroad, especially those colleges likeMassachusetts Institute of Technology, California Institute of Technology, Reutlingen University,Hannover University of Applied Science and Arts, City University of Hong Kong, TsinghuaUniversity, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Zhejiang Universality of Scienceand Technology and Wuhan University of Science and Technology, this paper reviews the historyand status quo of the development of liberal arts in local engineering colleges, summaries theprecious experience of the liberal arts construction, and presents a characteristic reform way forthe development of liberal arts in Chinese local engineering colleges. The paper is divided into five parts: the first part elaborates the background and significanceof the topic, and defines the concepts of liberal arts and local engineering colleges, and statingthe theoretical basis from the perspective of pedagogy and management. the second part reviewsthe history of the development of liberal arts in Chinese local engineering colleges, and analyzesthe status quo of the development of liberal arts in China as well; the third part summarizes theeducation experience of liberal arts in eight engineering colleges from home and abroad; thefourth part Wuhan University of Science and Technology is selected as examples and is analyzedpractical experience on reform of liberal arts major in Chinese local engineering colleges; thefifth part puts forward development strategies, development paths and specific measures for thereform of liberal arts in local engineering colleges.
